A RARE FIRST-YEAR VARIETY
The Kennedy Half Dollar was introduced in 1964 to honor President John F. Kennedy, quickly becoming one of the most widely collected coins in American history.
This special Accented Hair variety features additional hair detail above Kennedy’s ear and was part of the earliest proof strikes before the design was slightly modified by the U.S. Mint.
The obverse shows Gilroy Roberts’ portrait of Kennedy, while the reverse displays Frank Gasparro’s Presidential Seal design.
Struck in 90% silver, the 1964 issue represents the only year Kennedy Half Dollars were produced in traditional 90% silver composition for proof coins.
